GILLESPIE   I am trying to determine when David Gillespie (b 1858) emigrated to Massachusetts.  David was born in Hillsborough and married Ellen Frances Sullivan, also from Albert Co; they had 7 children, most or all of whom were born in Albert Co.  David worked for a time at the mines in Albert Mines.  He had only 1 arm, presumably following injury.  The family migrated to Wakefield, Mass.  Their 7 children were: Annie Grace (b 1902), Leo Joseph (1904-1990), Robert Francis (b 1906), Miriam Theresa (1910-1976), Francis X (b 1912), Eileen, Lillie.    I would like to know the date of their marriage and, is possible, the date the family emigrated to US.  David was the son of James Gillespie and Rosannah Steeves.  His sister Susanne (b 1846) married a Peter O;Brien and they also emigrated to Massachusetts and resided in Springfield.  They had 5 children who I think were born in the US.   I would appreciate any help available which could assist in completing the family tree. Terry Gillespie ctg@hfx.andara.com

GILDART/GELDART    Looking for biological parents of William Douglas Gildart. Born  1885-1886 in Albert Co. Adopted by John R Geldart son of Robert and  Barbery(Steeves) Geldart. John R was married first to Rosannah Prosser,  daughter of Solomon and Elizabeth (Geldart) Prosser. John and Rosannah  had a daughter Priscilla who married Robert Weir.  Jorn R Geldart married second to Judith Hopper (had been married to Sam  Hopper and had two children Harold and Leslie). Judith was daughter of  William and Weighty (Steeves) Wilson.

William Douglas and George Beckwith went to Victoia County as teens ( to  work on railway I think). John R and Judith moved up to Victoria Co. also, following William  Douglas.  William Douglas died while on Holidays in Ontario in 1967. His wife was  Amy Finnamore.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.  David Gildart (3/8/2000)

He was a teacher of instrumental music and teacher of public schools. He married Elizabeth Lahey Sweet in Saint John, NB on 8 Dec 1856. She was born in Truro, NS and had previously been married to Jarvis or Jabez Sweet. She may have been mother to Sarah Sweet who married Thomas Bannister and John Sweet who married Zeany Bannister. Walter and Elizabeth lived in Middlesex (formerly Bannister Road). They had 3 children: Walter G. m. Caroline Murray; Frank Seymore; Elizabeth m. James E. Smith. Bob Sweet (28/3/2000)

GOFF. I'm looking for ancestry of William Goff, b 1761 England, died 6 May 1835 in New Horton and his wife Nancy. I'm also interested in any descendants of this couple. I'm descended from their son David who married Lavina Anderson.  Stuart Ward (7/7/1999)

*** GOFF. "I noticed on the GenWeb page a Stewart Ward looking for info on Gough/Goff descandants of son David who married Lavenia Anderson. I have researched the descendants of Lavenia Anderson and would be happy to send him what I have
and maybe add some info he has; but I couldn't get the message thing to work and I tried the address from my e-mail and had no luck either. If you know how to contact him, could you give him my address sometime. I am just leaving on vacation at the moment but will be back and would love to exchange information with him. Appreciate your help. I have received a few inquiries from my note on the page that have really been helpful - appreciate you suggesting it."

GROOM. Enoch Groom came with the Loyalists to PEI. He married Dorothy Clarke there about 1788. He petitioned for land in Hillsborough in 1797 - states mice were so bad in PEI and he says also he has a wife an children. He does not receive the grant. By 1811 Enoch Groom is in Sussex Parish and he buys property in Hampton Parish, Kings Co., in 1815. According to the Records of Kings County by Rev. James Grey - An Amelia Groom (I assume is Enoch's granddaughter- don't know who she was the daughter of) born about 1833 married William Duncan. She died June 4, 1898 and is buried in the Cemetery on the Salisbury Back Road. Her son, Albert Duncan, (born Salisbury) a motorman in Boston, was married in 1897 to Julia Maggie Jones, born in Polet River, daughter of Trueman Jones and Frances Steeves. Does anyone have any information on anybody by the name of Groom? Ruby M. Cusack (23/2/1999)

GROSS. Looking for the family (esp. parents) of Eva Williams (nee Gross), who came from Albert Co. and moved to British Columbia before 1950. Her husband was Thomas Williams (Jr.), and they had a son Richard. Joan Gunter (13/9/1999)

Update on GROSS:  The parents of Eva Gross were George V. Gross & Mary C. Gross (nee Wallace).  George was the s/o Rev. Michael & Mary A. (Beatty) Gross; Mary was the d/o John Wallace, M.P. for Albert Co., & Charlotte Wallace (nee ?)   The death date I have for George V. Gross is 9 Sept 1900, but I have been unable to find an obituary for him in any of the Albert-Westmorland Co. newspapers.  When his father, Rev. Michael Gross, died in 1897, George V. was mentioned in the obituary as living in Middleton, N.S.  George & Mary's daughter, Eva, was b. in Salmon, Idaho in 1893.   I am also searching for the marriage registration of George V. Gross and Mary Wallace - m. 8 Jan 1884.   Any help would be much appreciated.    ~  Joan Gunter (19/4/2000)
